How did I discover clay? Well, when I started college I was at a total loss as to what I wanted to do with my life. I changed my major several times as a freshman at North Dakota State University. Frustrated with dull general lecture courses, I eventually decided to take hands-on classes that I knew I would enjoy. So, in the fall of my sophomore year I signed up for drawing and photography. The next semester I took ceramics and I loved it, even though when class started the studio was so cold the buckets of slurry frequently froze solid. I persevered, wearing four pairs of pants to class every day, and by the end of that year I was an art major, on my way to a B.A. in Art and English.
This fall (2009), I entered graduate school at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. I am working toward a Master of Fine Arts degree in Artisanry - Ceramics.
I feel very blessed to have many supportive people in my life, encouraging me as I meander along. I am particularly grateful for, and indebted to the following people: my family, especially my parents, Eric and Jackie, for all they've done, my aunt and uncle, Deb and Kim, for giving me a place to live when I needed one, Stu M. for teaching me to throw, Terry Kuntz for his assistance with this website, and David Swenson, who has been a patient and understanding mentor.
